Louisville, 143rd Kentucky Derby – [Two] New Friends
Here we are again my friends; another Monday, another fresh start and chance to come into the new week refreshed! I adore what these Music Monday posts have become to me and how they’ve grown since I first starting posting. The writings have evolved into half music and half journaling, checking in, monologuing about life, etc. It has become a brilliant way for me to keep track of my life without really trying too hard. I’ve never been one to take the time to journal daily in order to remember everyday thoughts and feelings, I commend those people for their dedication. This little weekly check-in gives me all the record keeping I need.
I spent this past week at The Kentucky Derby for work and although I’ve left Louisville in an almost pure state of exhaustion after the week, I couldn’t have asked for a more memorable trip! The time there was well mixed between work, making new friends, seeing old ones, and getting in some solo time. There is nothing like a shared experience to instantly bond people together and spark friendships that would otherwise never have come to fruition. That is why circumstances like college, classes, clubs, and work are the easiest and quickest ways to make new friends. After being a part of the 143rd Derby at Churchill Downs, I’ve now started some new friendships based on some pretty distinct and quite hilarious memories. Heading to Louisville also afforded me the opportunity to see my parents who took the time to make the 2.5hr drive over and have dinner. Hadn’t seen my dad in a very significant length of time so catching up with him was greatly needed. Even in the mix of all that I still found some time to venture off and fly solo. As much as I love my friends and family, I can quite often be a lone soul. I used to be a little ashamed to admit that because it comes with the stigma of being antisocial/socially awkward – both of which I am not, but as I’ve gotten older I know that making sure I get my alone time will ensure I enjoy my social time all the more.
So for the sake of all the new friendships I made this week, coupled with the many new memories, this week’s playlist is focused on all the newest music I’ve been listening to. The absolute freshest tunes sprinkled with the latest tracks from Two Friends, one of my favorite DJ duos.
